Christmas weekend recap

I hope everybody had a safe, fun Christmas weekend!

I sure did.

Christmas eve H and I hung out at home.  We watched a ton of Christmas movies while drinking eggnog and rum.  Christmas morning we slept in until 11am!  Which is something we haven’t done since we started our paper route.  Let me tell you, it was much needed!

We hung around at home in our pajamas all day, talking to friends and family over the phone.

I cooked us turkey dinner and we ate way too much – but so worth it!

We were back delivering papers on the 26th.  We drove by Future Shop at 3:00am and I couldn’t believe the line up!  People were camping outside with sleeping bags!  I did notice they had a KitchenAid stand mixer on sale for $150!!  Tempting, for sure.  But I resisted and stayed home inside all boxing day.

I really enjoyed Christmas this year.  We spent under $100 buying cards and gifts for everyone.  So while it was a cheap Christmas, it didn’t feel like Christmas.  If that makes any sense.  We didn’t have our family here and we didn’t wake up early to open any presents.  This was our 4th Christmas together and the 4th year we have had a “no gifting” rule.  We decided that next year we are going to do more for Christmas – either gift giving or being with our family!

My goodness, 11 am? Lucky you, hope you both enjoyed it!! We had a no gifting Christmas last year, and we didn’t like it very much. This year we budgeted $100 each, and it was quite lovely to open up a few things. We also host a brunch for a few friends and family…more casual and less stress than a big turkey dinner.

At 3am?! That’s crazy! I saw their flyer. The deals weren’t THAT amazing. I’d never line up that early for a sale. O_O!

Hey cool, I’m from Vancouver too =) Nice blog! I like your wedding savings tracker.

I had to work on Boxing Day and then SOMEHOW ended up spending $$$ (those darn stores that open past 5pm!) I ended up going on futureshop.ca and bought a laptop! (Online shops are EVIL!)

omg. I could never camp out in a sleeping bag. Thats just too hard core for me.

I dated a guy way back when who camped out at A&B Sound (remember them??) for a Boxing Day sale. Thing is, this was way back when the sales were WORTH camping out for (subwoofers for $30-regularly $100+).

Sales weren’t that fabulous this year. :/ Good for the wallet, right!

We didn’t exchange gifts either, but next year we’re going to do something special.

Rina: Yes!! You called it. I used to live for boxing day sales!! I miss those days.

munchkin: haha…. No, I don’t think I would camp out either. Unless it was a crazy deal on a KitchenAid mixer… I think I would do anything to score one of those! ;)

Young&Thrifty: Hey! Thanks for commenting!! Boxing day sales are hard… that’s why I forced myself to stay home :p

Judi: Sounds like a lovely Christmas!! :) That’s great!

Pear: 3am is a little much, especially to just buy STUFF.
