21 Day Challenge

It’s been said that it takes 21 days to form a new habit or break an existing ‘bad’ habit.  So I thought I would give myself this challenge to form some new, healthy habits.  I was thinking of starting this next month – but why wait?

I’m going to start now.

The idea is to write down 1 or 2 new habits that you want to form or break and do them every day for the next 21 days. And by the end of the challenge it should become something you do without thinking about and part of your day-to-day.

They don’t need to be ground breaking.  They can be ANYTHING.

My 2 goals for the next 21 days

  • Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day.
  • Read a minimum of 30 minutes each day.

If you want to participate in this with me, feel free to leave a comment below and let me know what you’re working on!

I will let you know how this goes, in 21 days! :D

I'm on the same kind of challenge! My goals are to workout on my treadmill (or do one of my Biggest Loser DVDs) and wake up 15 minutes earlier (so I'm not rushing out the door every morning in a panic.)

Awesome! When did you start? Or are you starting today? :)

i working on exercising on a daily basis. i've been out of the habit since being on sports teams in high school. i had made it 10 days but then i missed yesterday so i have to try for 3 weeks straight again.

This post landed just as I thought to myself-I need to make myself some little goals to work towards. Thanks for your great timing!

I'm going to work on two habits:

1) Do some cleaning up around the house everyday for at least 15 minutes (DH and I are slobs-we let things get slowly but surely messier and then clean it up in one big go, which makes us both very cranky. I'd like to keep the house at a reasonable level so I'm not embarassed if someone drops by).
2) I will stop picking at my cuticles-gross I know. It looks horrid and unprofessional, so I need to stop. This one will be tough because I've been doing this since I was kid and only successfully stopped once (right before my wedding-wanted the picture of the hands with the rings to look nice).

There-I've said it, now I must do it! Thanks for the nudge in the right direction.

What a great idea! I'll gladly join you :) My goals over the next 21 days will be a) to go for a half hour walk at least three days a week and b) to take my camera with me and take some photos. I will start this tomorrow.

FrugalDreamer  on March 3rd, 2010

Good luck!! :) Exercising is a big one for me. And one that I am working towards.

FrugalDreamer  on March 3rd, 2010

Glad to have you joining! Be sure to check back in 21 days and let us know how you did :)

Good luck!

Woo!! Take more photos is always a good thing ;) And I guess walking is, too! hehe.

Let us know how you did in 21 days! :)

I heard 6 is the new 8. With regards to drinking glasses of water each day.

I am trying to exercise (either 30 day shred, wii, or pushups) and stretch everyday. I also want to learn to like carrots, blahhhh, but I might have to save that for another month when I'm really feeling it!

I love the reading goal, books though right, do blogs count? I easily get 30 minutes a day with blog posts. Good luck with the new challenges!

FrugalDreamer  on March 3rd, 2010

Oh yes! Books. Actual novels. I read blogs ALL DAY LONG, but I need to read more books! :) I have an entire bookshelf full of books that haven't even been cracked open.

Both great goals! According to my ww guidelines, ANY liquid counts towards your daily total. So that's your coffee, tea, coke (zero), etc. Of course water is best, but if you find it's hard to get it down, maybe try aiming for just 8 liquids instead of strictly water.

And yay for more reading…If I had time, I would read for hours every day. It is just so peaceful and fulfilling.

Great goals!! I listed 5 goals for this month, more fruits/veggies, reading, photography, exercise, & making more $! I'm also working on getting in more water, in the spring/summer I find it SO easy, but in the winer, I never seem to want it. So am always too low… good luck to you! :) ____http://www.halfdozendaily.wordpress.com

The water thing is soo good. I'm trying to do that too. One thing I do is drink a full glass of water every morning when I wake up. It totally helps me feel good in the morning.

Thanks Heather! Good thing to keep in mind, coke zero here I come! Haha. :)

FrugalDreamer  on March 4th, 2010

Thank you! Good luck to you as well :)

FrugalDreamer  on March 4th, 2010

I should try that! I always have my first drink at least 30mins after I have woken up.

FrugalDreamer  on March 4th, 2010

Well clearly whatever you've read is completely wrong. ;) hehe. 21, 28 – it's all good!

Holly  on March 4th, 2010

I'm attempting to give up diet soda for the entire month of March! I just spend way too much money on it and water is better. :o ) Good luck with your goals!

Just stumbled onto your site. I too am unemployed. Quit a Call Centre position after a 1-1/2 years. My glucose levels, blood pressure, and cholesteral are way up; my hypothyroidism is worse. My sick benefits from canada ei will be over the end of May. Have started job hunting, but I don’t think I’ll have a job soon. Going to see if I’m eligable to receive regular benefits. Not too hopeful, but it is worth a try. Things (finances) may get tougher, but I’m glad I quit. I don’t know how you lasted so long. Good luck!!
Starting your 21 day challenge. Plan to consume 8 glasses of water a day for the next 3 weeks. Let you know how I did June 15, 2010.
