Weekend Review

The visit with my mom was awesome!

H and I picked her up from the Vancouver airport on Thursday afternoon.  She took us out to the Olive Garden for dinner; it was really good, as always!  Then we went to Chapters bookstore and bought the Biggest Loser Family Cookbook with a gift card that H had.

On Saturday we went and watched the Blind Side. If you haven’t heard of this movie, watch the trailer here.  It was an AMAZING movie!  It was one of those good, clean movies that pull at your heartstrings a little bit.  I would definitely recommend watching it!

While we were at the theatre my mom saw that Precious was playing.  She said she wanted to come back and watch that one as well!  So, on Sunday we ended up going back to the movie theatre and watching it.

It was… sad – really sad.

It’s hard to explain.  The movie was disturbing, heart wrenching and sick.  Because of the story line, I don’t think they could have told the story any better or made it any easier to take in.  I wouldn’t say the movie was good, again, because the story itself was just awful.  Anyone else who has seen it probably understands what I mean.  You can watch the trailer here.

Before watching Precious we went to Ikea.  The closest Ikea to my parents is about 8hours away, so she wanted to pick up a few things while she was in Vancouver.  H and I ended up spending $30.  We bought candles, shelving brackets, this non-slip material for our kitchen cupboards and plastic bins.  We did pretty good, since Ikea can be dangerous!

On Monday my mom and I watched 9/11 Loose Change.  If you haven’t seen it – you have to watch it, tons of information regarding 9/11.  I actually found a full-length upload of the show on Youtube!  Click here to watch it.  (Wow, a lot of links in this post!!)

We also talked a lot about our wedding plans and budget.  There is a lot to write about, so I am going to save that for tomorrow!

But I had a great weekend.  It’s always like a vacation for me when my parents come to visit!  Back to reality today!

I know what you mean about Precious, I saw it too and feel the same way. It was an awful movie to watch.

I wrote about it and got some flack about my thoughts on it and that I wouldn’t recommend it. Sure, it’s an eye-opener, but is it really appropriate for mass consumption? It’s too brutal and raw in my opinion. Some people would really be turned off by it.

Ginger: I know what you mean!

Apparently the book is much more graphic than the movie. Apparently the “come take care of mommy” scene in the book is in full details.

Precious looks like a crazy movie. I can’t wait to see Blind Side. I’m glad you had fun with your parents!

sounds like you had a great weekend with your mom, FD (except for the whole Precious movie). I’m avoiding Precious. I KNOW exactly what it’s about and I just can’t watch something like that during Christmas. :(

So glad you had a good time with your mom, besides the movie. I bet you are already looking forward to your next visit! Can’t wait to hear what’s new with your wedding plans.

Loose Change’s 9/11 is amazing. I discovered it about 2 years ago. Like so many other things, a lot of people claim it’s just another conspiracy theory and missing facts, bla bla bla. I think a lot of what is in that docu is true, and it’s so scary!

Glad you had a great weekend! I never heard of “Precious” until you mentioned it – omg, I would BAWL my eyes out! :(
